We used our basic recipe for pure mead, in which we infuse fresh leaves from the Icelandic mountain angelica herb. We wanted to pay tribute to the king of Ladby and as a mead flavoring we chose an herb that was used in Viking times. It is said that angelica was used as a medicine and spice in food during the Viking Age. Angelica extract increases blood circulation and warms, is strengthening and helps against poor blood circulation. It was an important vitamin C supplement for the Vikings. However, this is not a medical prescription, so we are only passing on what was passed down as folklore among the people.
Around the year 925, a Viking king was buried in Ladby in Kerteminde. His magnificent Viking ship and weapons were stored with him. Today, the shipwreck, as a unique cultural heritage, can still be experienced in an authentic location in the Ladby Viking Museum.
A mead that you can enjoy with desserts, with coffee or on its own.
Mead can normally only be bought in Mjødgård and the Ladby Viking Museum.
