History

Founded in 2021, the company produces a range of handcrafted meads using honey as the heart of every recipe. Alongside the traditional King of the North, the range includes Meadnight Drakkar, Ireland’s first coffee mead, and Freya’s Kiss, a hibiscus mead – two unique flavours unlike any other meads currently produced in Ireland. Ulster Mead Co. has already gained recognition both in Ireland and internationally. King of the North was a finalist at Blas na hÉireann 2025 and 2026, Meadnight Drakkar won a Bronze Medal at the Mead Madness Cup 2026 and was also a finalist at Blas na hÉireann 2026 and our Freya’s Kiss won Bronze medal at Blas na hÉireann 2026. The company was also named Innovation Award Winner at the Donegal Enterprise Awards 2025 and received Highly Commended – New Business at the Letterkenny Chamber Business Awards 2025. Inspired by Donegal’s landscape, heritage and culture, Ulster Mead Co. has grown from a small local producer into a brand stocked in over 70 locations across Ireland. The range is now expanding into Northern Ireland and is also available to customers worldwide through Celtic Whiskey Shop in Dublin. Ulster Mead Co. is helping to bring mead back to the modern table, creating distinctive Irish meads with a strong Donegal identity and a fresh approach to an ancient drink.
