Othlannden is the old word for the Üechtland, the formerly wild border region between Bern and Freiburg, the border between the Romansh and German parts of Switzerland. Othlannden was allowed to mature after fermentation for a short time in Laphroaig barrels. And these gave the mead a strong boost of Islay: Dominant peat smoke, salt water and seaweed blend nicely into equally dominant honey flavor. A drop for those who value Islay whiskey ‐ and for explorers. 11% alc. Fermentation time: 6 months, barrel storage: 1 month
